Southern Buttermilk Fried Chicken Legs

Description: Golden, crispy, and bursting with flavor, this Southern-style fried chicken recipe is pure nostalgia on a plate. Soaked in tangy buttermilk and hot sauce, the chicken becomes unbelievably tender and juicy. A seasoned flour coating fries up into the ultimate crunch—crispy, peppery, and just the right amount of salty. One bite and you're instantly transported to a front porch somewhere in the Deep South, with sweet tea in hand.

Ingredients:

  • 12 chicken drumsticks
  • 2 C buttermilk
  • 1 T hot sauce
  • 2 C all-purpose flour
  • 1 T paprika
  • 1 t garlic powder
  • 1 t onion powder
  • 1 t salt
  • 1/2 t black pepper
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, combine buttermilk and hot sauce. Add chicken and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  2. Mix flour with all seasonings in a separate bowl.
  3. Heat oil in a deep skillet or Dutch oven to 350°F.
  4. Remove chicken from marinade and coat thoroughly in flour mixture.
  5. Fry in batches for 12–15 minutes until golden brown and cooked through. Drain on paper towels and serve warm.
