At the End of the Day

Verse 1

Back when I was selling software to telcos
Fresh pressed shirt and shiny shoes.
Conference room full of experts
Selling yesterday’s landline news.

Junior guy around the table,
Trying hard to earn my pay,
Every sentence ended the same…

Backing Vocals (group):
“Well, at the end of the day…”

Chorus
At the end of the day, the sun goes down,
The clock quits tickin’ for this old town.
You can spin it left, you can spin it right,
Still gonna turn into another night.
You can talk till tomorrow, say whatever you say…
But the day still ends

Backing Vocals (group):
At the end of the day.

Verse 2
PowerPoints and pie charts flying,
Buzzwords stacked a mile high.
“Think outside of the box” and “paradigm shift,”
Nobody could tell you why.
Twenty voices on conference calls,
Nothing much to show that day…
Except somebody always smiled and said,

Backing Vocals (group):
“At the end of the day…”

Chorus

Verse 3
Now retired, I flip on the evening news,
Every channel’s got a sage.
One says this and one says that,
Reading from the same old page.
Different faces, different logos,
Same old script in full display…

Lead:
Sooner or later somebody sighs and says—
(All backing vocals, layered)
"AT THE END OF THE DAY..."

Bridge
If I had a dollar every time I heard it,
I’d own a beach somewhere.
I’d watch the sunset with an ice-cold beer
And never, ever care.

Final Chorus
At the end of the day, the crickets sing,
Nobody remembers everything.
All the speeches, all the noise,
Big shots playing with expensive toys.
The moon comes up whether you agree,
Truth don’t need a résumé.
You can keep your passé clichés if you want to play…

‘Cause the only thing that’s certain
At the end of the day…
…is the end of the day.
