High above Auckland, New Zealand

Sky Tower - Auckland New Zealand

Richard takes on two unforgettable adventures at Auckland’s iconic Sky Tower in New Zealand. Standing 328 metres—or 1,076 feet—tall, the Sky Tower is the tallest building in New Zealand.

First, Richard ventures outside for the SkyWalk, circling the tower on a narrow platform 192 metres—630 feet—above the ground. With no handrails, participants are secured by safety lines while enjoying panoramic 360-degree views across Auckland.

Then Richard takes the ultimate step and completes the SkyJump. Suspended from a controlled safety cable, he drops 192 metres, or 53 floors, reaching speeds of approximately 85 kilometres per hour—53 miles per hour. The descent lasts about 11 seconds before the system slows him for a controlled landing in SkyCity Plaza.

I stayed safely on the ground and filmed Richard’s entire jump. The woman who jumped immediately before him screamed continuously from the moment she stepped off the tower until she reached the bottom. Richard, however, handled the plunge like a seasoned adventurer.
