Our eyes finding something
the darkness had kept.

Above the familiar trees,
an ocean that wasn’t there.

Jellyfish in the sky,
who left the water open?
Where are you taking
the light we cannot see?

Our dog lifted her nose.
Something in the silence
held her beside us.

We knew where to look.
Still, we weren’t ready
for the sky to open like that.

Jellyfish in the sky,
swimming without a shore.
Is that tomorrow in your ribbons,
or something we remember?

Now the trees wore borrowed light
and distance had no meaning
we could hold.

Your white body widening,
moving as though you knew—
through all that empty country—
where to go.

What changes were folded
inside you?

Something of us goes with you.
