Walking the Great Wall of China

[Spoken Narration]

We left our Beijing hotel at seven o’clock,
hoping to reach the Great Wall before the crowds.

A short walk brought us to the cable car.
As we rose above the trees,
the Wall slowly appeared,
stretching across the mountain ridges
like a stone dragon disappearing into the morning haze.

Stepping off the cable car,
we climbed the original stone steps
to reach the Wall itself.

Our first stop was a watchtower,
where we paused to take in the view.
The mountains were wrapped in a soft mist,
and for a few quiet moments,
it felt as though we had the Wall almost to ourselves.

Then we began to walk.

There wasn’t a single flat section.
Every step climbed…
or descended.
The ancient stones followed every rise and fall of the mountains,
making every turn a new adventure.

It wasn’t an easy walk,
but every step was worth it.

Standing atop one of humanity’s greatest achievements,
surrounded by the quiet mountains of Mutianyu,
is a memory that will stay with us forever.
